Keith Boanas
Although my students/players/mentorees all share a common desire and determination to accelerate their success, they have a wide variety of plans and goals, from enriching their football knowledge , developing their careers and building a successful career that is line with their true values and ambitions.
The backgrounds of my personal mentees (clients) , range from xxxxx, through to young clients starting out on a football career, to UEFA A B and pro licence coaches as well managers and coaches in the semi and professional game.
Approach:
I have a fundamental belief about my understudies that frames how we work together i.e. they already have everything they need to achieve success. My role as coach mentor is to stimulate and challenge my understudies to unlock their true potential , advise and assist in their coaching journey no matter where they are in that journey and no matter at what level and no matter what the realistically want to achieve in the game.
Personal mentoring with coaching is the ultimate personal development vehicle so after reading all the books, attending all the courses to grasp the possibilities of personal football development, my clients find that real results come from working with me closely to translate this knowledge into action to build competencies to guide them to be the best coach/tutor/manager /educator that the can be.
Together as my mentee and understudy we will incorporate the following to become the best coach you can possibly be and more with a life long journey in continuous learning;
- Self-Awareness (Knowing one’s internal states, preferences, resources and intuitions)
- Self-Regulation (Managing one’s internal states, impulses and resources)
- Personal Motivation (Tendencies that guide or facilitate goal achievement)
- Empathy (Being aware of others’ feeling, needs and concerns)
Personal Mentoring Plans:
Personal mentees and understudies retain my services in three ways according to whatever suits their individual needs:

The Benefits of Professional Soccer Coaches Working as Mentors for Coaches and players.
Why Mentoring ?
Mentors are important for a number of reasons. They can provide advice, help, and guidance to the individual that is looking for a career in the field.
They are often someone who has been in your position before and have experience with what it takes to succeed. Mentors can also be people who have knowledge about particular skills or qualifications that you may need to know.
A mentor will be someone who guides you through your journey into professional soccer, helping you along the way and providing advice when needed.
What is an understudy
The understudy is a soccer coach who is mentored by a more experienced coach.
The importance of understudy coaching is often overlooked. —
It is important to have a mentor who can guide you through the process of becoming a coach.
A good coach needs to have experience and knowledge in order to be able to provide their player with the best possible training. It is also important for them to have a good mentoring system in place as this will allow them to find new talent and groom it for future success.
—
A soccer coach mentor is someone who has been around the game for a long time and has a lot of experience. They have played and coached in the past, and they have vast qualified experience with different types of players and teams. They are not just someone who knows about soccer, but also knows about people.
An apprentice is someone who is learning from a mentor or teacher. They are usually students that are working with an expert to perfect their skills in that area.
Just some of the players and coaches that I have used these methodologies with include Casey Stoney – Charlton Athletic Women FC, England International & GB Olympic Captain, current San Diego USWNL Head Coach/Manager. Other former England women internationals, Pauline Cope, English FA Hall of Fame member, have also tutored former England Women’s National Team assistant coach, Marianne Spacey and Matt Beard current head coach of Liverpool WFC who were back to back Women’s Super League champions – then moved to Boston Breakers in the US NWSL, to name just a few in women and girls soccer. I have also coached and placed many players from Europe that have gone on to University soccer scholarships in the USA as well as college coaching roles. Feel free to reach out to me for advice or help any time. Please keep in touch as I would genuinely like to hear from you.Yours in Football, Keith krb@instituteoffootball.comThe International Football Association Of Coaches And Teachers.
